Raymond inaugural RX2 champion on Cooper rallycross tires

Cyril Raymond is the inaugural RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires champion, after thrilling the partisan fans with a flawless performance at Lohéac in France, at the beginning of the month, to clinch the coveted crown on home soil.

French driver Raymond has led the official FIA World Rallycross Championship feeder series all season, engaging in a fierce duel with reigning MSA British Rallycross Champion Dan Rooke. However, the Englishman’s hopes of lifting the laurels were extinguished over the course of a difficult weekend in Lohéac where he failed to make the final for the first time in RX2.

If Raymond won the final in France, he would also win the RX2 title, and the Olsbergs MSE ace duly delivered – with just one round of the RX2 season remaining.

RX2 will next visit South Africa, which is also the final round of the year for World RX and an historic moment as it will be the first time the rallycross championships will be heading to the African continent.

Sarah McRoberts, Marketing Communications Manager, Cooper Tire Europe, said, “Congratulations to our inaugural RX2 champion, in what has been a closely fought opening season for the series.

“As the sole tire supplier, in World RX and RX2, we are proud that all drivers compete on high performance Cooper rallycross tires. Our RX2 tire is smaller in radius and diameter than the World RX tire, but manufactured using a similar construction, and produces the same thrilling action across mixed surfaces – from the rough to the smooth.”
